When will I be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine? Will I be able to go to Dr. West to receive it when it’s available?

As of December 30th, 2020, in the state of Virginia, only frontline healthcare workers and long-term care facility residents are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine (Phase 1a of the CDC phased allocation of the vaccine). Virginia will soon move into the next phase (1b), which will allow frontline essential workers and individuals over 75 years of age to receive the vaccine. The next phase (1c) will allow those aged 16-74 with high-risk medical conditions, as well as non-frontline essential workers to receive the vaccine. Finally, after these initial high-priority groups, the wider public will be vaccinated.

Our practice is currently in the process of becoming eligible to administer the vaccine, as soon as it is available to the wider public. We have learned that cold storage issues are not a problem with the Moderna vaccine, and thus we may be able to offer that vaccine or one like it in the future. It is still unclear as to exactly when the vaccine will be made available to you at our practice. Rest assured, we are doing everything we can to make sure our patients receive the best care as soon as it is available. As soon as we have approval to begin administering the vaccine, we will send a notice to all our practice members so you are up to date immediately.
